- Vanessa hit the Top 10 with "A Thousand Miles."
- Vanessa released her debut LP - Be Not Nobody. She told VH1 where the title came from: "Be Not Nobody is where I am at in my life right now. I know I'm only 21 but I had to go through a lot at that dance school. I lost a lot of who I was. I fell apart and it was really hard. You feel completely alone, like no one cares. Writing this record let me recapture who I am. It is summed up in the title Be Not Nobody. You need to feel comfortable in your skin and do whatever you need to do for yourself, to heal or to grow."



June 2002
- Vanessa hit #1 for 4 weeks with "A Thousand Miles"



July 2002
- Vanessa hit the Top 40 with "Ordinary Day"



August 2002
- Vanessa hit the Top 10 for the 2nd time with "Ordinary Day"



September 2002

- Vanessa could be heard on the soundtrack for American Dreams with her cover of "Wishin' And Hopin'"
- Vanessa won an Award for "A Thousand Miles" at the 51st Annual BMI Pop Awards
- Vanessa debuted her new song, "Dark Carnival", for the video game "Spy Hunter 2" at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3)
